Fireside Chat with Ryan Teigen - “Training the Mind, Running the Race: Mental Skills for Endurance Athletes”

Welcome to the Fireside Chat! This series was designed to provide runners and the general population easy to absorb information regarding health & wellness, running mechanics, nutrition, strength training, and injury prevention. As the series progresses, we will cover a myriad of topics and speak with different professionals in the health & running community.

In this 13th edition, we had a great conversation with guest, Ryan Teigen. Ryan is a Mental Performance Coach in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and owner of Perseverance Performance. He's a former collegiate runner and vital resource to help you overcome any barrier to perform at your best.

As much as running is an extremely physical sport, you must train your mind for success. This includes positive thinking, visualization, and other skills which will allow you to excel under pressure on race day. Ryan even discusses how addressing the mental component can directly improve physiological performance.

In this Fireside Chat, we covered a variety of topics, including…

  1. How to manage your goals & motivation to stay present during training and perform your best

  2. Strategies to manage race day nerves and unhelpful thoughts

  3. And much, much more!
